advanced backup strategy

Post by grocanar »

Hi

i m using veeam backup and replication 7.0.4 and i would like to have some kind of peculiar strategy.

then for each VM i would like to have 14 points of restoration for the last two weeks and after two weeks to have only one point of restoration per week duting 3 months.

how can i achieve that?

Hi Eric,

You can use regular backup jobs with 14 restore points for the retention policy setting (given that you will run your jobs on daily basis). And if you want to have weekly backup copies, then I would recommend using backup copy jobs with regular retention policy and synchronization interval set to 7 days.

Thanks!

ok i understand the concept.
but with this configuration can i share the list of vm between the two jobs?

how can i manage the space of the copy?
with the job copy did veeam simply duplicate backup file?

Yes, you can add the same set of VMs to both backup and backup copy jobs. Even further, you can specify the regular backup job as a source for the backup copy job so it create weekly restore points for all the VMs backed up by the regular backup job.

Backup copy job does not copy files but rather synthetically creates restore points on target repository using data available in the source repository. It is always incremental and copies the latest VM state during each synchronization interval. So you will always have one full backup and subsequent set if incremental files.
