Veeam management server slow due to SQL

Post by lando_uk »

Hi

Our Veeam Management server is getting slower and slower. The VeeamBackup.mdf is now 3.5GB, and clicking through various sections sometimes has long delays.

In the windows resource manager, under the Disk section, the Disk Queue goes up to 200+ when doing stuff inside the manager - obviously that's painfully slow.

Do we have to move the SQL to an external box? Or is there some local cleanup that can be performed?

Thanks

The server in question is Dell R720xd, c: is on 2 x 10K SAS and all the other slots are used for a repository - So not as easy as just moving the DB/Logs to different disks.

Mark, slowness might be caused by the number of job session records in the configuration database. Btw, what SQL Server version are you running and what is the size of your backup environment? Anyway, I believe support will be able to assist you in database cleanup, if required. Have you already contacted them? Thanks.

Databases of this size are considered relatively large, so probably you need to purge some historical data to make it smaller. I recommend contacting support.

Also remember the SQL Express is limited not only on data size but most of all to cpu, it can only use a single core. Check also the cpu usage of the SQL process to see if also cpu is a limit there. IF it's the case, then yes upgrading to SQL standard is a reccommended practice.
