Efficient upload to cloud

Post by guitarfish »

I presently backup up 5 VMware VMs with Veeam B&R 7.0. The backup target is an on-premise Win Server with local storage. So far, so good.

My needs:
1. Upload to cloud for DR purposes.

2. I run monthly full backups, so uploading these to the cloud is very time-consuming. Is there a way to consolidate backups, in essence making a "full" backup file on a given date using previous full+daily's? I would need to perform this operation on backup files already uploaded to the cloud.

Hi,

The following technology should address your needs

Thanks!

Here's my understanding of what I've researched so far:
Veeam B&R 7 Cloud Edition - allows copying of local backups that are already completed to the cloud.
Veeam B&R 8 with Cloud Connect - allows using the cloud as a primary repository when running a backup job.

Personally, I need to have backups stored locally first, and available in the cloud as a DR option. Seems like v7 Cloud Edition is my best option. Is there going to be a v8 Cloud Edition as well?

Since posting the previous post, my reseller tells me v7 Cloud Edition isn't available with v8. Maybe I missed something, but according to the v8 webinar I watched, v8 doesn't support replicating local backup to the cloud. Weird.

If you open the link provided above, you will find out that Cloud Connect fully supports backup copy jobs, which are effectively designed for replicating local backups to remote repository.

Basically, Cloud Connect provides Veeam backup repository in the cloud, which can be used either to create backup files directly in the cloud, replicate local backups there, or in any other way an ordinary Veeam backup repository can be used.

[MERGED] : Veeam v7 Cloud Edition vs new v8

Post by guitarfish »

What are the differences between the former "Cloud Edition" and the cloud functionality of the new v8? What can v8 do that Cloud Edition can't?

Hi,

Don't the posts provided above answer the questions you have? Can you elaborate on what particular moments are still unclear for you?

Thanks.

I apologize, I should have posted back here, but I actually forgot about this thread. My confusion is coming from comments seen in a few places on the web that (erroneously) describe v7 CE as having features that actually only exist in v8. I have it straight now.

Does the Veeam Cloud Provider Directory apply to v8? I need to get some numbers on cloud storage costs for the next year.
