Changing location of a .vmdk - Will it affect replication?

Post by kmile »

Hello experts!

I have a VM that consists of two .vmdk files, one being the C: partition and that is residing in the same folder as all other VM files. The second .vmdk file is the data partition (750GB) that is in a different folder but on the same datastore as the VM. Don't ask me why it ended up like this...long story...

Because I like to be pedantic I would like to move the second .vmdk into the same folder as the rest of the VM.
This particular VM is replicated to our offsite DR. If I do this modification will it affect the replication job or will Veeam "know" it is the same file only in different location?

Your help will be highly appreciated.

No, we read disk informations from the vmx configuration file at each run, and if the disk is still the same (non changed the uuid) the backup will be incremental as usual.
It's the same situation as a storage vmotion, that is supported as well ;)

I thought that might be the case. That's excellent.
Thank you very much for your valuable input.
