Offsite DR recovery procedure

Post by beerinder »

We just implemented Veeam in our company and I have been asked to write up the off-site DR procedure.

Currently we have 3 ESXi hosts with around 12 VMs backed up by Veeam on a tape for off-site storage. we don't have any WAN replication so need to recover all virtual server off-site from tape media. Is there any documentation on how to recover the whole esxi servers from tape?

Any help on this topic will be much appreciated.

Beerinder, please review the corresponding user guide section. The procedure itself is pretty straightforward, you would need to restore the required backup files from tape to disk first and then start an ordinary full VM restore. Thanks.

Thanks Foggy, that means first we need to rebuild the Veeam Backup & replication server at DR site from scratch.

Is there any Veeam utility/tool to take an image of existing Veeam backup server and do a bare metal restore at DR site?

If backup server is a virtual machine, you can simply replicate it to DR site. Otherwise, just backup its configuration. Thanks.
