Feature Request: Restrict volume restore

Post by bkonicek »

I haven't gotten the beta yet but I didn't see any options for it in the webinar. Can there be a feature to disable volume restore from the taskbar icon for non-admin users so they cannot accidentally do this?

Hello,

Since it is an end user product there is no such feature now. Thank you for the feedback as it might be useful for some major deployments - we will look into this.

bkonicek,
I was forced by our dev team to post a small clarification :D

- to configure Endpoint Backup user needs admin permissions on local machine
- to run a backup admin permissions are not required
- to run a restore user again would need admin permissions on local machine

Frankly speaking admin can install and configure backup for a user, and then let user run Endpoint backup, when restore is required – admin login to the machine and perform this operation.
Of course that would not work this way if an end user got local admin privileges.

Oooh...that's kind of disappointing. I was hoping to give this to remote users. Do they have to be an admin even for recovering a single file?

[MERGED] Hide tray icon from user

Hide App and tray icon from user so that only administrators see it to prevent users from configuring backup jobs or trying to restore data on their own.

It seems like there are two different opinions on how it should look like... :)

If this was fully integrated into Veeam B&R, this would be a non issue as you can choose different creds using credential manager.

I think it would certainly make sense to allow own files restore, even if the user is not a local admin.

However, I know there is a technology limitation that requires (at least in B&R) that a user initiating FLR is a local admin (this has to deal with file system driver FLR uses). Dmitry, please investigate with the devs if this can instead be done by a service running as a LOCAL SYSTEM.
