Office 365 - Veeam

Post by frankive »

There is a trend that most of our small business customers is moving to Office 365 with their solution with Sharepoint, Exchange etc. for a great price.
From an IT-perspective I dont always trust how to restore f.ex an Sharepoint-site etc.

Is it possible to connect Veeam to a Office365 solution through a workaround or are Microsoft Office365 backup/restore good enought?

With Veeam I believe you can restore data to Office 365, but not backing up data that is hosted in the cloud.

Feature request: A connector that connects to the Office365 and backup the the Office365 tenant as it was local.. :) Kind of ironic request though, i see how many codelines that would be and it's probably impossible.

Hmm...if you're concerned about Exchange backup, then you could potentially leverage Veeam Endpoint to backup local *.pst file and other files stored on local machines :)

Hi,
Just checking if there is any update on this. Can we backup Office 365 using Veeam?

That's an hot topic, an hot trend and a large change in Veeam products line. I hope Veeam will embrace and develop a cloud backup solution for Office 365, in a smart way as only Veeam can :)

I am actually going to say I wish this existed.
We have office 365 here as well as veeam, but I would be lying if I didn't want the warm fuzzy of being able to snapshot historical backups for long term retention & granular restore. You kind of give that capability up with cloud solutions but I want my cake and to eat it too. Even if it was just pulling down a pst on termination and scooping it into my rotation.

We are certainly seeing requests from customers for 365 backups that are existing Veeam B&R users.

As seen on the next big thing (https://go.veeam.com/launch-event) we are working on a solution for backing up office 365 email. We will have a beta ready soon. Stay tuned here :-)

Thanks Frank!

Please feel free to share with us your performance for the initial backup (amount of mailboxes / total size / time it took...) and incrementals after that. The more real-life data we have, the better we can do more planning ;-)
