Issues with Long File/Share Paths

Post by tflaman »

It seems like VEB doesn't handle long file paths very well. When pointing it to a "long" share path (only 26 chars!) the backup keeps failing giving the following error:

2014-12-18 10:52:27 AM :: Preparing for backup
2014-12-18 10:53:03 AM :: Version failed
2014-12-18 10:53:03 AM :: Processing finished with errors at 2014-12-18 10:53:03 AM

I also think that prefixing both the backup folder and files under it with "Backup Job" and the host name seem a little unnecessary, it creates really long filenames/paths.

Hello Tim,
Long paths seem to work ok. Just had a quick successful backup to the very ( very :mrgreen:) long network path. It might be something with the permissions or backup process itself. Could you open the support case so we could look into complete Endpoint log? Thank you

I used a shorter path to the exact same folder, same permissions, and it started working.

Got it. Still interested in your case – will talk with QA tomorrow regarding the error you received. Thank you for the details!

Would you mind revealing the actual path that fails?

Maybe this is more an issue with content (e.g. special characters) rather than length...
