Looking to Install UAIR wizards, is this the way to go?

Post by Alan_ORiordan »

Hi

I have a physical Backup server running Veeam B&R 7 patch4.

I have two host servers at the live site running production machines including SQL 2008 R2 and Exchange Server 2013 CU6 as well as other applications servers and Domain controller etc

I want to get the UAIR wizrds installed but confused how to go about it. Is this correct below?

I am using this as a reference:

http://veeampdf.s3.amazonaws.com/guide/ ... w21CMro%3D

1. Where can I download the UAIR wizards for Vesrion 7? The links I have found take me to a V8 page
2. Can I install the Enterprise Manager (required to approve the VirtualLab which is required for the UAIR wizs) on the same VM that has Veeam One installed?
3. What is best practice for testing the backups of the Exchange and SQL servers? Frequency of test and test restore items?

Thanks

Hi, can you explain what are you intending to use UAIR wizards for?
1. They have been discontinued and replaced with Veeam Explorers family, but you can still get them through support.
2. Yes.
3. Best practice is to test every backup with a SureBackup job using a test script. Actual script can implement any type of test that you require, including pulling some items from test mailbox or database. By the way, B&R v8 ships with very powerful SQL test script out of box.
Thanks!

If UAIR wizards are no longer the preferred feature for restoration of AD, Exchange, SQL objects then that's fine. I will use the Explorer tools instead, I had though they were the free tools but not as powerful as the UAIR wizards. I only seem to have the Explorer for Exchange installed in the Veeam Program group. I don't know why I don't have the others, or how to get them installed on the B&R server.

I also want to get a Virtual Lab setup so that I can test backups ahead of a DR test without interferring with the Live environment. It will also be handy for demonstrating VM recovery and bringing online a UAT environment.

As for V8 I don't quite feel ready to implement that yet, still very new to Veeam and have an implementation and DR project to complete first. Been reading the newsletters though and it looks good, the SQL log rollback features seem like they will be valuable however.

Thanks

AD and SQL Explorers are shipped by default in VB&R version 8. Thanks.

For this you do not need AIR wizards, you can still use Virtual Lab capabilities for your testing.

They are actually much more powerful than AIR wizards. ;)
