3 month retention, daily increments, one weekly full

Post by Rod78 »

What would be the best way of setting up this simple scenario..

- full backup on saturdays. Sunday - Friday are increments
- I want to this chain to be preserved for 3 months.

Is this possible to accomplish with a single job? And using synthetic fulls?

sure, just cram in an active full once a month and you will be all set! :)

Marcus, the OP needs to have fulls every week ;), so I would suggest either using active fulls or synthetic fulls once a week (on the desired day) with forward incremental backup mode and retention policy settings configured to 90 restore points (30 for each month).

was rather thinking adding an active full once in a while to the schedule. but maby im too used to using similar funktions with other backup software.

Yes, active full backups can be indeed useful once in a while, but here is an existing topic for further reading on our current recommended approach > v8 New Forward Incremental-Forever Backup confusion
