Veeam 7 upgrade or Veeam 8 fresh installation

Post by onsik »

HI

We have some issues with our Veeam B&r 7 (patch 4) - case 00731913
Current config
Vmware insfrastructure - ESXi 5.5
Veeam 7 patch 4 running on virtual machines Windows 2008 R2
4 x proxy - physical servers running 2008 r2
Database is running on external SQL server

We were asked to rebuild Veeam server from scratch and the question is:

We have a freshly installed new server with Windows 2012 R2
1. Can we install Veeam 8 + patch 1 and use the config file from Veeam 7 in order to have jobs/proxies etc configured?
Are there any issues with license if we want to go from version 7 to 8 as described above.

2. Or should we firstly install Veeam 7 and patch 4 on freshly installed Windows 2012 R2 and restore config from backup and after config is restored do the upgrade to Version 8 patch 1

What is the better way ?

Thanks
Mariusz

Mariusz, you can go directly with v8, configuration from v7 can be imported just fine. You will need to get a new v8 license from your sales rep, though.
