Veeam and VMware SiteSurvey

Post by n2it-dk »

Hi, ive noticed that there might be issues running VMware SiteSurvey to check if hosts and harware supports FT in a VMware environment. Its failing on the snapshots and tells that its not compliant atm due to existing snapshots on the various vm´s wich is allso defined in backupjobs in Veeam B&R.

Kind of think that the ctk files are the ones letting VMware SiteSurvey know that there are existing snapshots... Is this something Veeam is aware of?

Thanks

Hello, no - CTK files host changed block tracking info, these are not snapshot files.

Yes, im aware of the fact that ctk files isnt snapshot files, but im pointing at it beeing the reason why VMware SiteSurvey tells that there are snapshots.

Only the vm´s having been backed up by Veeam B&R is the one affected by the final report made by VMware SiteSurvey indicating that there are snapshots laying around.

Sounds like a bug in SiteSurvey to me, as CTK files have absolutely nothing to deal with snapshots... of course, snapshots do have their own CTK files too, but VM can have CTK even if it never had snapshots created. That would be CTK corresponding to the actual VMDK file.

May be there are indeed some snapshots present, have you checked the actual VMs?
