Full uninstall mode

Post by Freeglandeur »

Hi All,

Actually setup.exe install All necessary product (SQL local DB and Backup software) but when we uninstall the product, only software is removed,

I Think It's important to have the possibility to remove All components (SQL, Backup Software and catalog) could you had these options in setup ?

Thanks.
Cédric.

Hello Cédric,
Some applications in OS might still utilize the existing SQL components, so simple remove all option would not work for such case. For v1 user will have to manually uninstall SQL if it’s no longer needed, but I will discuss your request with the team. Thank you.

Dmitry:

What about isolating the uninstall to just the INSTANCE of the SQL Server Express related to Veeam? And put some logic in the uninstaller that if there is only one instance (namely Veeam's) grab everything else related to the install as well.

Adam,

Would you be happy (for now :-D) with a clean-up script?

If you are talking for the GA release, then that could work, but you would need to include some uninstall instructions.

Perhaps just hold off until you can get the uninstaller to intelligently remove the SQL components, and until then just put a note in the Read Me file that if you are attempting to uninstall the software, you will need to remove the SQL Server 2012 components manually/separately.

You can kill Endpoint instance to make a fresh install but it’s complicated: follow case A instructions from this post

Hi Dimitry,

Ok I understand this position,

So i test it :

- install Veam,
- make a backup
- Remove Veam
- Remove SQL
- Restart computer
- Reinstall veam,

in this process what I see is that the new installation recover 1st installation Catalog,

Is there a way to uninstall Veam, SQl AND Catalogs ?

could you tell us where are stored catalog files ?

Thanks.

Cédric,
Yes, you need to delete the endpoint database instance like described in the guide I posted before. Complete uninstall would look like this:
- Remove Veeam
- Delete the instance
- Remove SQL
- Restart computer

Hello guys,
Thanks to you all, we are going to improve the uninstallation process: all Endpoint leftovers - logs, endpoint database instance and other temp files will be removed during the uninstallation process (on request, of course).

Has that been implemented to Veeam B&R? I'm attempting wipe a server from B&R, including all configuration and logs, for a clean reinstallation.
