Safe snapshot removal

Post by mellerbeck »

I'm curious to learn a little more about this feature. It sounds like a vmware snapshot creates a

delta.vmdk file, a vmsd file and a .vmsn file.

It sounds like vmware will create a consolidation helper snapshot as well?

And then if the 'main' snapshot gets above the threshhold set for safe snapshot removal... ahh I think I got it just by typing the post. Does it trigger another vmware snapshot so instead of one really large snapshot file you get multiple that are more easily applied?

Thanks,

Michael

Hello Michael, yes you are correct, this is exactly how it works. You can refer to page 49 of the User Guide for detailed description of this feature.

Interesting, it says the safe snapshot removal is enabled by default. But I am seeing that it is not anymore... maybe a change?

This looks to be documentation bug, as this was not enabled by default in 4.0 RTM build for sure.
