steps on setting up a SQL backup jobs

Post by tienlamnguyen »

Hi communities.

I am new to Veeam and there seems to have no roadmap to show newbies how to backup and recover SQL server with the SQL explorer.
I have read a ton of document but nothing is giving me a definitive answer.

Do I thought I ask the communities on what are the steps - best practices to configure an SQL server backup jobs. Here is what I want.

1-Backup my SQL database server.
2- I want everything to be backed up by Veeam and recover with the Veeam SQL explorer. There is no Native SQL server job

There are a lot of options.
Do i enable all of these options ? Enable application-aware processing;Enable guest file system indexing; enable VMware Tools quiescence

You should:

- Enable application-aware image processing
- Go to Applications
- Select the necessary VM
- Click the SQL tab
- Define Backup log job settings

Thanks.

Thank for the input.

These are my options.

1-enable application- aware processing and guest file system indexing only
2-choose Truncate logs (prevents logs from growing forever)

I will make a test run and see

thanks

1 - Indexing is only necessary if you're going to recover granular data via Enterprise Manager.
2 - You may want to backup SQL logs periodically, instead, to have ability to perform SQL point in time recovery.

On a side note, logs truncation makes sense only for databases in Full recovery mode (didn't find what configuration you're using).

What do you mean by that ? when I choose the truncate jobs option - veeam is backing up my Transaction logs right ? so that i can have a point in time restore right ?
Do I have to choose Backups logs periodically to be able to have point in time restore ?

yes I am using Full recovery mode.

If you need point in time restores, you have to select backup logs periodically option, logs truncation will happen during normal backup job run in this case.
