Veeam One Reporting slow

Post by dreyer »

Hi,

creating and showing reports take a few minutes with my veeamOne installation, depending on the specific report.
A simple report ( performance of one vm, last day for example) takes 1-2 minutes bigger reports (host performance 6 month e.g.) take 5-15 minutes.
The veeamOne Server is a vm with 16 cpu's and 24 gb ram.
In veeamOne 18 vm hosts are monitored. the database-server is a sql server enterprise with uses all cpu's.
Server OS is windows server 2008 r2.

Do you think the duration of creating report is okay i need some comparision.

Thanks!

Hi Dreyer,

Do you have SQL Server installed on the same servers as Veeam ONE? Do you use SSRS?

Thanks!

Since you have SQL Server Enterprise Edition, I would suggest running database partitioning script, this should improve the performance of reports generation. We have this KB article which refers to SQL Server 2012R2, but if you contact our technical team directly, they will provide you with instructions that should be done in SQL Server 2008R2.

I will make a support ticket for configuring partitioning for sql server 2008. Another question: do you think srss will raise the speed of report creation too ?

Yes, it should. Also separating SQL Server and Veeam ONE server should also increase the overall performance, but first let's start with database partitioning. Let me know how report generation improves after that.

Hi Dreyer, I see that you have closed your ticket and was planning to do some other changes. Our support team is waiting for the feedback on this change before escalating it to devs.

Can you inform your engineer about this (can't escalate the closed ticket), as this should re-open the ticket?

Dont understand your question. Please reopen the ticket i still need help with raising performance for report-building. The DB-Partitioning did nor solve the problem, i need help trying other changes on our Veeamone server.

I see that your ticket (00823764) has been closed, that's why I've asked you to re-open it, so we could continue troubleshooting this via debug logs review. Sorry for the confusion.

Did you re-open the ticket as I have asked in the previous post (don't see it in the support system)? Also let me inform your technical engineer about this directly.

Here an update for other customers with this 'problem':

The Support wrote me that its normal that report-creating takes so long and recommended me setting up an standalone SRSS server. They have tested report-building with our database in their labs it took 10 minutes for rendering too (report: Capacity Planning, full scope)

Regarding to the support we need at least two, better three servers (veeam one , + sql server, sql srss standalone server) to run the software with an acceptable speed.

its a little pity that we need two sql server enterprise lizences to make veeam one usable for us and its even more pity that it took almost two month to get this information!

I will try now setting up an srss server and hope this will solve our 'problem'.

Hi Dreyer,

Thanks for updating your topic with a resolution. It is indeed recommended to use SSRS and database partitioning to make reports run with acceptable performance and I have stated this in my first post ;)

Three servers might not be required, you can combine SSRS and SQL Server roles and deploy it in a single machine. Let me know what performance you will have after installing SSRS server. In addition to this, I would appreciate if you could post the results (before and after), so that I could show it to our dev team for review.

Thanks!
