ESXi in place upgrade vs. wipe / fresh install

Post by mcclans »

I'm curious as to what most users are doing when it comes time to upgrade their ESXi hosts. Do you perform an in place upgrade or wipe and install fresh the new ESXi version. We had been wiping and installing a fresh copy. As a result we were getting many "Object 'UUID' was not found". Most of these errors appeared under the Virtual Machines browser of the B&R console when selecting an individual VM like when performing a zip. Support stated this was the reason for the errors was the fact we were re-installing ESXi and not upgrading.

Yes, in-place upgrade is preferred option if you want to retain all IDs for virtual objects and avoid errors like that.
