What happens if during backup copy job primary backup starts

Post by complexxL9 »

So as the title asks what would happen if during backup copy job which is currently in progress, suddenly the primary backup job would start according to it's schedule? Would that interrupt the backup copy? Should I plan accordingly so backup copy always have time to finish before next primary backup job (for same VM) runs?

No, backup copy job will not be interrupted.
Backup copy job has several phases. As mentioned in the user guide,
the synchronization phase starts according to the predefinted time interval. At the beginning of a new interval, Veeam Backup & Replication checks if a new restore point is available on the source backup repository. And if a new restore point is found, the backup copy job starts the synchronization process and copies the latest VM restore point from the source backup repository to the target backup repository. In a case new restore point appears during the next phases(transform, post-job activities), the backup copy job process will be still finished.

So, yes, you should plan your jobs` schedule keeping in mind their durations.
Thanks!

Actually backup copy job will be interrupted if it overlaps with the source backup job > Help with backup copy job (continuous)

Interrupted in v7, suspended (paused) in v8.

From What's New document:
Backup Copy suspend: A Backup Copy job is now suspended when source backup files are locked by another job or process, such as a restore or full backup file transformation, instead of just failing.

Thank you for answers, however in my experience with v8 is that backup copy fails after trying to resume and in the result backup copy restore points are unusable.
The workaround I currently use is to disable copy job, remove copy backups from repository and enable copy job again, but this causes full backup copy over WAN and takes a long time, so I need to find some other solution to this problem.

Code: Select all

2015.03.17 17:23:37 :: Error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. Failed to create or open file [\\<ip>\veeam\Copy-RDS\Copy-RDS2015-03-17T070000.vib]. Failed to download disk. End of file Failed to upload disk. Agent failed to process method {DataTransfer.SyncDisk}.

Hi,

Primary backup job has a priority over backup copy job, so if an overlap somehow occurs then some the tasks that require backup copy job to lock backup files will be placed on hold until the primary job is done using the files. Please check this article for more details.

Thanks
