Veeam disaster question

Post by Elefanten »

Hello !

I am using Veeam 6.5 Standard edition and I have a question regarding disaster recovery.
I am run Veeam on a dedicated physical machine in the same room as the VMware servers.
Backing up to local disk, external usb disk and tape (file to tape) gets stored outside building with 30 restore points but i discovered that Configuration Backup settings was pointed to local disk repository. I have now reconfigured the Configuration backup to point to External usb disk that get changed weekly, and created a copy schedule to copy these files to a external file server every day.

Is there something i am missing in case of a disaster ?
If i put the configuration backup files on the tape and loose Veeam backup server i guess i am stuck in case of a disaster where i loose the servers ?

It doesn't seem so.

Nope. You can install VB&R, catalog tape mediums, restore configuration and re-deploy it on the newly installed server.

Thanks for quick answer !

If I choose to only store configuration backup to tape and not external USB drive or scheduled copy to external fileserver,
am I able to restore the configuration backup from tape and import backup ?

Once the library is cataloged, you'll be able to restore configuration from it.

Ordinary backups can be imported even without restoring configuration.

Thanks.
