More Info In Event Logs for Shutdown/Reboot?

Post by ninjaburn81 »

So without boring everyone, long story short I installed the RC client and set the backup to run and then once completed, shut down the PC. I kinda forgot that I left my wifi card turned on, so for some reason the backup started over that instead of my 1GB hardline to the fileshare I have set up. Thus, since this was a fresh backup, it ran a full back image...that took 23 hours. Since I was unaware of this, 23 hours and one second later, my system prompts me it is shutting down, and does.

After booting it back up and determined what happened was Veeam just finished, I realized that there was nothing informing a user of this action. The only record I can find in the Event Logs is in the System log with this:
The process C:\Windows\system32\Shutdown.exe (AV-6430) has initiated the shutdown of computer AV-6430 on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: No title for this reason could be found
Reason Code: 0x800000ff
Shutdown Type: shutdown
Comment:
Could we get something noted in the application log, or at least have the 'Comment' section filled out by Veeam? This may also assist in troubleshooting reasons why Veeam fails to shutdown/go into hibernate/etc. There is also nothing noting this in the EP application itself. Thoughts?

Hello,
From what I got, we need to identify the connection type (maybe by speed or type) and use the fastest one and push some suitable event in the log (or you would like it to be pushed in Endpoint UI)?

Good ideas indeed. Thanks Adam!

Not at all, Dima :D we are talking about putting the reason for shutdown in the Comment field.
"Computer was shut down after successful backup by Veeam Endpoint Backup"
