[POLL] What are your top 10 features in v8
Now that v8 has been out for a while and many of you had a chance to use all the new features, I'd like to ask you all one simple question:
If you were to buy Veeam Backup & Replication today, what features would make you choose Veeam over our competition?
With this poll, I am hoping to determine which of our major features are really important to you. Why? The first reason is to ensure that pending enhancements to these features are prioritized accordingly. Second, I want to know what types of features are most popular – so that we could focus our innovation on the same or adjacent areas.
I've grouped 25 features in 3 groups (backup, recovery and DR enablers) – but you can only vote for top 10 features, so think carefully before voting!
Now, if the list above does not include some smaller features which are really important to you, please do comment below!

It has been a really really hard choice to select ONLY 10 points

How about "missing" features like global deduplication for repositories, splitting backups files into chunks...?

Wow, fantastic. Very helpful results already, including a few features scoring much higher than I expected. Thanks all who had voted so far!
Welcome to my world, Alessandro exactly the same problem as I have deciding what pending enhancements to allocate spare R&D resources to!tinto1970 wrote:It has been a really really hard choice to select ONLY 10 points
Guido, every "missing" feature should undergo a thorough discussion in the dedicated topic before we consider implementing one (also depending on how active the corresponding topic is). Without such dedicated discussion, neither all users are able to contribute their specific requirements for the feature, nor I have a chance to explain our position regarding one. Global deduplication that you noted is a great example actually - as I have explained in the corresponding discussion, Veeam is already capable of performing deduplication more globally than those vendors who do claim to have "global deduplication" as a marketing check box.Delo123 wrote:How about "missing" features like global deduplication for repositories, splitting backups files into chunks...?

The main difference comparted to other systems: Jobs runs successfully, and restore works. Simple as that!

This should be an option.panzer wrote:The main difference comparted to other systems: Jobs runs successfully, and restore works. Simple as that!

Would love to see an option that when deduplication is disabled for a job, then each backed up VM is stored in a individual backup chain inside each backup job directory.

Re: [POLL] What are your top 10 features in v8
Would be nice to create a poll of most needed features.
1. Better Tape Support (approved drives haven't been updated since 8/2013!)
2. Easier settings for full backup copy to tape.
3. Ability to copy VSB full VBK based on most recent backup without VIBs.
4. Ability to store multiple jobs on the same tape to reduce wasted tape space. Fill/Spill instead of one tape(s) per job.
5. Ability to define time range on all reports.
6. Ability to produce a single nightly summary report when last job finishes from a group of chained jobs. (Individual emails for each job creates clutter).
7. Ability to designate day of week when chaining. For example, run tape job after disk job finishes Friday night.

Re: [POLL] What are your top 10 features in v8
You can vote for any feature by posting your requirements in the corresponding discussion topic. We don't do feature polls because often users have different requirements how certain feature should be implemented, and they all vote for their understanding.
Dedicated feature topics allow us to both measure the real interest behind certain feature (simply by looking at the number of unique posters), and collect typical requirements that are common between users - initiating conversation to get additional details as needed.
BTW, tape drives listing is continuously updated - doing this does not change the original post creation date though.
