Veeam 8 and AWS Storage Gateway

Post by resruss »

Hi,

We've deployed and tested an AWS Storage Gateway and begun pushing some test backup copy jobs to it.
Pretty impressed with performance (other than the 100mbit artificial cap on the storage gateway).

We checked our billing portal just now and found that our usage more than doubled yesterday (we've been running it for a couple of weeks).

I quickly thought it may just be Health checks on the backup copy jobs, which did in fact run on Sunday (yesterday).

In the interim, we've disabled health checks on the backup copy jobs (they're still enabled on the original backup jobs).

While the cost this time wasn't huge, it was a test before we push 50 copy jobs to AWS, which would get quite costly.

I'm assuming Veeam doesn't recommend keeping health checks disabled on backup copy jobs, are there any other recommendations / best practices for AWS storage gateway and also any experiences with doing similar to Azure?

Just a quick question - haven't you thought about configuring AWS Storage Gateway in VTL mode and utilizing backup to tape job instead of backup copy one? Thanks,
