Mounted Backup and timeouts?

Post by ober72 »

Hi All,

I have mounted a backup and am using another tool to archive data at the file level off of it. Does the mount GUI have some kind of timeout, i.e. after a certain time of inactivity does the restore gui close itself?

thanks

Hi Geoff,

Not sure if there is a timeout for this, I will double check, do you use built-in restore wizard or other OS? BTW, is there any change you've started a backup job when the restore was happening?

Thanks!

Hi Vitaly,

I disabled the backupcopy job in question, so no transfers were taking place. I use the "restore windows guest files" this brings up the GUI but it also links to the FLR folder in explorer, on my other software I target that folder, it does now seem that if there is a certain period of inactivity that the mount times out, i.e. the restore gui closes and the volume is dismounted in explorer FLR. I just wanted to make sure that it was inactivity and not a hard set timer. I compared data sizes of the data I extracted and what was there and they seem to match.

Thanks

Geoff, there's indeed a timeout, if mounted volumes stay inactive during 30 minutes, they get unmounted. You can increase the default by specifying the following registry value that should go under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication:

Code: Select all

InactiveFLRSessionTimeout
Type: REG_DWORD
Value is in seconds.

Ok thanks foggy. So if another piece of software is reading from the mounted volumes (i.e. copying, as in an archive or file level backup) then the volume will not dismount, I just want to be sure :)

thanks

If you're doing it with Veeam, then the FLR session should not timeout, correct.

Hi Vitaly,

I have mounted a Veeam backup but then am pulling data out of the FLR mount with another process, not veeam. I think that if I understood Foggy's answer as long as there is activity of some sort Veeam won't dismount the backup.

cheers

[MERGED] : Backup Job will fail if a Windows FLR Restore

Post by haenggi71 »

I have one short question :

We have Version 8.0.0.917 installed and we have one small Problem :

We have different Jobs configured. If an IT Technician forget to Close a Windows FLR Restore Session during the day, the particular backup Job of this Session will fail during the night. Is there a possibilty to automatically close the FLR Restore Sessions or maybe there is a timeout where can be configured somewhere for FLR Restore Sessions ?

Thanks for any help and if you Need further Information just let me know.

kind regards
Thomas

FLR session automatically closes after 30 minutes (by default) of inactivity.

Just curious, if I set the reg key to 0 means no timeout at all? Or immediate timeout after 0 seconds?

If set to 0, disks will be unmounted Immediately once the timeout check is triggered for the first time (it is triggered once per several minutes).

We have the same problem. FLR Restore Sessions are not being closed after 30 min. Afterwards I went to the registry to see if there is a Registry Key Like InactiveFLRSessionTimeout (DWORD), but there wasn't. So I put manually the registry key
Like InactiveFLRSessionTimeout (DWORD) with 3600 seconds. Afterwards I restarted all VEEAM Services and opened a Windows FLR Restore Session. But the session is still open even after more than 2 hours.

Code: Select all

"AgentLogging"=dword:00000001

"IsComponentsUpdateRequired"=dword:00000000
"EndPointServerPort"=dword:00002711
"InactiveFLRSessionTimeout"=dword:00000e10
We are using the following version 8.0.0.2021

Are there any more settings or configuration tasks for this issue ?

kind regards
Thomas

Then probably some activity occurs on the volume within the specified hour. You can try to set it to a lower value (several minutes, for example) or contact support for a closer investigation. Thanks.

Hello there, digging up an old but perfectly matching thread

Before upgrading to v12.1, our FLR Jobs never timed out, they'd stay open for days.
Since v12.1, i've now suffered twice from auto-closing FLRs - sometimes you just can't finish a complicated restore ticket before heading into the next video session, when you return you'll only find the GUI Wizzard "gone" and Explorer unable to access the previously mounted disk...

a) does anyone else experience a change in behaviour after upgrading to v12.1?
b) is the registry key mentioned by foggy still valid? InactiveFLRSessionTimeout
