Feature Request: WAN Acceleration On Backup Job

Post by Jackf »

Hi,

Please note i would like to add a feature request to enable WAN Acceleration on a standard backup Job.

This would help vastly with an initial offsite seed.

Thanks

Hi, Jack. Why do you backup directly offsite? Thanks!

Hi,

In this case we backup offsite to a remote DC.

We have a 100mbps WAN link between the sites.

If we had wan acceleration in backup jobs this would speed up the initial transfer of data for a new Veeam job.

There is this feature in replication but I cant see it at all in backup and I think it would be a great feature.

Thanks

We tend to recommend slightly different approach, thus, the absence of WAN Acceleration for primary backup jobs.

Don't you happen to have some spare storage at production site that can be used as repository for local backup jobs? Even some decommissioned server that can be stuffed with bunch of disks (that don't cost a lot these days) would do the trick.

Thanks.

Hi, Yes we do.

I think I know whats going to be suggested here.

1. Backup to local storage.
2. Backup Copy to the remote storage with Wan Acceleration
3. CHange the target to the backup copy data?

I just would like to be able to do this without the initial copy to local?

Thanks

Jack, so you don't have local backups (for fast operational restores) at all, right?

Please, see the explanation provided by Anton in the adjacent thread; should shed some light on why we're not keen to implement the requested functionality. Thanks.

Hi, Jack,

It indeed has referred to a different post which I now realize might have been a bit confusing.

Anyway, what I was trying to point out was the fact that we tend to provide certain features in backup copy jobs only to make our customers follow best practices and be on the safest side in case of disaster.

However, your voice regarding having WAN Accelerators in backup jobs has been heard.

Thanks.
