SDelete ?

Post by mcclans »

So "sdelete -z" is recommended to be used with thin disks to reclaim white space after removing data to shrink the disk. Vmware states you need to vmotion the disk to a datastore of a seperate block size first before this can take place though. Is this necessary for Veeam to ignore the newly written space? The sdelete will actually cause the Thin Disk to grow to it's fully allocated size first which seems to negate the idea of using Thin Disks and the it's not very common that you would have datastores of different block sizes, especially in smaller environments where space can be an issue. Just curious of others experience. Below is the Vmware article.
