System Volume Not found

Post by jsese »

Hi, We have VEB installed on a VM ( Win 8.1) on vmware and citrix, and are trying to configure a backup to save user folder to a network shared location.

But oppening the wizzard says "System Volume Not found" and closes.

What could it be?

Thanks in advance.

Hell Jorge,
"System Volume Not found" and closes
Can you please elaborate on which step of the wizard you receive this error? Have you opened a support case thru Control Panel > Support?

Encountered the same error.
Solved by making local user a local administrator

Michael,
Thanks – that’s might be a solution as Configure backup wizard requires the elevated user permissions (local administrator account)

Jorge,
Check if the user account has a local admin privileges as Michael suggested. Additionally I’ve asked QA to take a look at your case.

Hi again, i've checked it, im trying from a local administrator account and also domain admin account, same result.

I've tried running Veeam Endpoint by right clicking and using "run as admin" option but nothing

Hi, just an update, i've received response from Veeam Support.
Hello, Jorge!
We have recreated your situation.
Unfortunately, seems like in current build we cannot provide backup for such virtual drive as yours.
We'll research it more and maybe support of such sources will be implemented in one of next versions, but I can't promise anything for now.

Thank you,
Alexey Gladkih

Thanks to all.

anything new on this issue? i would like to backup an VDI (personal vdisk from Citrix XenDesktop) with veeam...

the VDIs gets provisined with Machine Creation Services from Citrix (on ah XenServer)... basically this is a feature to only have one master vm in place and start multiple vms from this!
i can see ah normal C Drive inside the windows explorer, but in disk mgmt console from Windows there isn't any C drive....

Stephan,

You can backup the physical volume where virtual disk files reside.

that does not work or meet the requirements...

with citrix xendesktop and xenapp there is a feature available that called "personal Vdisk", essentally this personal vdisk is a virtual disk drive in ah hypervisor (xenserver or esx) but as soon as using the xenserver traditional veeam b&r does not work...

so the idea is to backup with veeam endpoint, so far so good... but the issue is that when using pvd feature of citrix there is no normal C-Drive anymore... because the C Drive gets virtually mapped and even this pvd disk is splitted and have some hidden VHD File on it where some of the information is stored...

you can get ah good idea of how this is working in this slidedeck:
http://de.slideshare.net/citrix/best-pr ... l-desktops

the "fun-fact" is... that i even didn't want to backup the C-Drive... i would like to backup the visible part of the personal vdisk where the user can store data...
i understand that veeam is searching for ah system volume to backup, but i don't have one and i even don't want to backup this...

i guess without this check if a systemvolume is available everything where fine

Stephan,

Thank you for sharing the detailed explanation. We will review this request but meanwhile it is not possible to backup such disk with VEB.
