Feature Request - split backup repository files

Post by BradJensen »

Windows Deduplication won't run on files 'near or over 1 TB' in size. So says MicroSoft. I lie awake at night wondering what could possibly be magic about that file size, and if they ever plan to fix this designed-in bug, but as usual it is best to design around the MS bug.

This is a problem for backup repository files that are over 1 TB in size.

Of course, it is possible to break one backup into multiple backups, so that each backup is less than 1 TB in size, unless you have a VM over 1 TB.

It would be nice if Veeam had an option to limit the size of individual files in the repository to X bytes, such as 750GB for example, and then Veeam would write continuation files for a single backup that were each smaller than that size.

so file.001.xyz,
file.002.xyz, etc.

Pretty please with sugar on it.

Hi, Brad. We have something in line with that coming in v9. Not exactly what you are asking for, but should largely address this requirement regardless. Unfortunately, I cannot say much at this point, as this option is a part of a "top secret" feature. We can touch base towards the end of the summer, when the feature will be announced. Thanks!
