Problems with performance

Post by hansis1 »

hello

sorry for the next to on this issue, but i have big problem.

we have installed a new backupserver: Windows 2008 64 bit SP2

we have 3 esx-hosts with vsphere 4 one vcenter in virtualmachine (vmware vCenter Server 4) and veeam Backup v4.1 on the new backupserver.

ESX-Host connected to Storage with FC.
ESX-Backup Host connected to Storage with SAS
Network between the two Switches: 1GB
The virtual machine is on an own array. Also at the other site!

Now our repclicationjobs are running wih 2-3MB/sec.

I have read and tested a lot without solution.

What can I do?

thx.

Hansi, your description is not clear - what VM is in the other site? What replication mode do you use? What else did you change from your previous deployment?

hello

veeambackup is running on the backupserver.
now i want to replicate the vms from active location to the the emergency location connected with 1GB.

Active-Location: ---- 1GB ---- emergency-Location:
ESX-Host (one of the vm is vcenter) ESX-Host
Backupserver (Veeam)

Job:
Replication-Job, VMware vStorage API (SAN with failover), VSS enabled

I hope the settings of veeam are corrctly: service console connection is enabled

Hansi,

Service Console credentials are not needed while using vStorage API modes. Try using just SAN mode to see if you've configured everything correctly to be able to run a SAN mode. Additionaly I would check the upload speed to a target storage using vSphere Client -> Datastore Browser

i think their is a false configuration?

Hansi,

Have you tried running SAN mode only? I believe you're falling back to network mode (NBD) which is a much slower than SAN mode. Also could you please clarify whether you're running Veeam backup server on a physical or a virtual machine?

with san mode i get a vddk error.
i have written to support.

NBD with changed block tracking I will get 36MB. Is this normal?

Hansi,

Performance rates depend on many variables in your infrastructure. You've got 10 times faster speed on your incremental pass comparing to your first run with 2-3 MB/Sec, i believe it is a good result.

However, please continue working with support on your VDDK issue, because SAN mode should definitely give you much higher speed results.

Thank you!
