Backups are failing due to the fact that a snapshot cannot be made of the guest.
When I go to Virtual machines there are Yellow exclamation marks on the hosts inside the cluster.
Is there a correlation between these occurrences.

Most likely there is. What kind of warnings do those hosts produce? Are you able to snapshot VMs manually, using vSphere Client?
