Truncate log, manage SQL log shipping with shared vhdx

Hi ...

We are running SQL cluster 2012, WIndows 2012. All over Hyper-V 2012 R2.

We are using Shared vhdx for two node installation, backing up sql in crash consistent state. We are fine with that.

We are planning to use SQL shipping for DR as shared vhdx not support for replication.


1- In our case can we configure transaction log backup though VAEEM?

2- If answer is Yes, as you know log shipping is shipped the log and truncate the transnational log. Can I use copy-only backup through VAEEM.

3- If both answers are yes, can we restore though VAEEM like point-in-time recovery ( like AAP with single vhdx). using SQL explorer so I can choose the time when restore?


VAEEM v.8 we are using.

Logs backup is not possible in case of shared VHDX, since there is no application-aware guest processing (crash-consistent backup).

So in this case VAEEM backup is enough and no need for SQL backup.

I didn't say it is enough, I just said that it is the only thing that is possible with Veeam B&R.

Typically, SQL Server is able to successfully recover from crash-consistent backup. You just will need to use native tools to do point in time restores.
