Backup Copy Job expected behaviour

Post by lowlander »

Hi,

we are backing up a administrative folder within virtual center using a veeam backup job. All virtual machines placed in this administrative folder are running in the job automatic with no need to add them individual.

Now we use a backup copy job to copy all the virtual machines in this backup job to a target repository. However, when we decide to poweroff virtual machines in the administrative folder, the backup copy job fails with the message for the powered off virtual machines : No up-to-date restore points available , Incremental copy was not processed during the copy interval.

Is this behaviour of the copy job as expected ?

Hi, this is indeed totally expected. The job is not failing, simply there is no updated retention point to be copied since the VM is powered down and has no modifications in its disks.

Thanks,

it would be nice to change the failed status into a warning status regarding the backup copy job.

Makes sense, I would say it could be not even a warning but just an info. It's up to the customer to decide the power state of a VM, Veeam should just note the lack of a newer restore point because of this and go on. Remember the missed restore points has already happened in the backup job.
