Veaam backup server

Post by ashman70 »

Looking for some recommendations for hardware for a Veeam server. Currently my clients Veeam backup server is running on a Dell T320 but the server is doing too many other things and Veeam is recommending a dedicated platform. I am looking at a slightly older Dell Precision workstation with either a single or dual Xeon CPU and 8GB of RAM, two internal 2TB drives on hardware RAID 1. Does this sound suitable? Is more RAM recommended? The environment is currently backing up 7 vm's as well as replicating them to a second vmware host onsite. I would be using the internal drives as the backup repository. OS would be Windows 7 professional.

Thanks
AM

Hi AM,

Dedicated server for a backup server is definitely a good idea. If you stick to the system requirements described here its recommended to have at least 4 GBs of RAM plus 500MB for each concurrent job, so it looks ok unless you load the backup server heavily.
