file level restore guest linux (keep) and wrong credentials

Post by 0zzY »

Hi all!
When i have to restore guest file from linux vm, i prefer to save locally to my windows vm and then copy manually to the destination vm, but in this way i lost linux attribute on the file.

So i have tried to use the option "restore -> keep", next the wizard ask me for credential.
Every credential i use are not accepted (also if i try to manually connect throught ssh to the temporary vm FLR_vm).
obviously credentials are right taped and let me access to the source vm vithout problem

What's wrong?

I'm using VB&R 8 update2 on vmware virtual environment

Hi,0zzy!

Indeed copying Linux files to Windows OS we don`t preserve the attributes(just like Linux does by default).

To restore with attributes, you need to set ssh and have tools installed on the guest (VMware or Hyper-V should provide guests` ip address to connect).
Credentials asked are for the guest you did backup from.

Also you can add a temporary host while making Linux file-level restore and CopyTo there. In this case attributes will also be preserved since the copy will be from Linux to Linux.

Hi Shestakov!
what you suggest is what i have done, but credential are not accepted.

SSH is enable and vmware tools are running, but this is the error i receive during "restore to" process

I have not a case ID yet, i'd like to find a solution here before, if i open a support ticket why sould i have to post here?

Thanks for the reply 0zzY,

Looks like you are doing everything correctly.

Another possible reason from our experience is the string PasswordAuthentification in file /etc/sshd_config . The parameter should have value Yes to make the connection possible. Sometimes the string is commented out or has the value No. However, connection established over PuTTY will still work fine.

I`ve also contacted our QA team and they asked for your logs to review. For that purposes, please contact the technical support team and post your case number here. Thanks!

Hi Shestakov, tnx for your support.
I'll check /etc/sshd_config in a few minutes, if the problem persist i'll open a ticket and post the case ID here as you suggest.

Hi Shestakov, with your hint i have resolved.
In addition i have seen the credential used to restore must have root privileges (or you receive Mount point error).
And the user account must have the ability to login directly to the vm (if is disabled direct access as root this file level restore does not work)

Thank you!
