Instant VM recovery NFS mount issue

Post by b.vanhaastrecht »

Hi,

We want to start a second Instant VM recovery to the same ESXi host. vCenter throws an error on Create NAS datastore, The specified key, name, or identifier already exists.

http://www.veeam.com/kb1690 instructs to remove a unused old datastore, but this isn't the case. We want to start a second Instant VM recovery session. Veeam should reuse the already mounted NFS datastore, and add the second VM to it.

Using v8 Patch 1. Known bug, issue or limitation?

Regards,
Bastiaan

Bastiaan, looks unexpected, I'd let support guys take a look at this. Existing datastore should be reused, if you're recovering backups from the same repository. Check whether the vPower NFS server can be resolved from the host.

It could be the VM's are from diffrent source repository's, we have multiple. Then again, should be a matter of adding an unique id to the second NAS mount to prevent this error to occour.

vPower NFS host is resolvable.

If you're recovering VM stored in another repository, it should be published on the corresponding vPower NFS datastore (new mount should be created, unless datastore is already in dismounted state).

I do not follow. It's the same Windows server, with 3 repository's. I do not recall setting an source vPower NFS repository during Instant VM recovery job creation.

Ah, so the same vPower NFS server is used for all repositories, right? Then the datastore should be re-used.

We'll take a look, however I'd appreciate if you could open a case and provide logs before leaving.

Have a nice vacation!

I'm back 8)

I'm trying to reproduce the error on same VMware level, with Veeam 8.0.2030. And I'm not getting the error...

The version at the customer site is 8.0.917, could it be this bug was fixed in an update?

It might be worth updating him first to the latest product version and, then, trying to reproduce the issue. In case of positive answer, the best idea would be to open a ticket with the support team. Thanks.
