Hello Michael,

We keep collecting requests regarding this functionality, so thanks for pushing. It’s there any specific scenario or use case where you want to manage Endpoint backup via PowerShell?

Hallo Dima,
Yes.

1.
We want to back up the system partition of two physical servers running a SQL cluster.
The databases are backed up with SQL maintenance plans.
The problem is the quorum disk, which can be running on server one or server two.
I have a PowerShell-Script what first start a query and then the backup (Windows Server Backup) with the disk selection (quorum disk yes or not)

2.
Create a the same backup job on different computers with a PowerShell-Script

3.
Remote start the backup jobs with a PowerShell-Script

Thank you
Best Regards

Hi Rubner,

1. Did you already try to backup SQL Server quorum disk with Veeam Endpoint Backup? What was the result of the restore, just wondering?

2. Do you have a special template for job configuration depending on the computer role? If yes, can you please give us a couple of examples?

3. Usually the backup job is scheduled, however it seems like you want to manually start it via PowerShell, right?

Thanks!

Hi Vitaliy,

Thanks for the fast Respons.

1.
No. At the moment, we not make the backups with Veeam Endpoint Backup.
The Backups we makes with Windows Server Backup to a share and then with Veeam Backup & Recovery to disk and tape.
We would like to take the opportunity to write the backups directly in Veeam Backup & Recorvery.
Ok. If the Quorum disk are not backed up, I can re-create it again or repair.

2.
No, I not have a template. It would be nice that after installing of Veeam Endpoint, the backup job will be created with a script. So we always have the same setting for all computers.
Is just an idea.

3.
To start manually the job, to change the backupjob settings on all computer with one click…

Rubner,

1. Got it, let us know when you start backing up your SQL Server. BTW, did you read Anton's digest regarding Endpoint and backup of SQL Server, Exchange and AD? If you're planning to do that make sure you install the upcoming hotfix to make sure your backups are consistent.

2. Ok, makes sense.

3. It seems like you just need remote job configuration options, thanks for the feedback!

Hi Vitaliy,

OK
On SQL we only Backup C: \ and System State (The system partition). No databases
The latest updates for Veeam have been installed.

Thanks

I was referring to this update, which is not available yet ;)
Word from Gostev wrote:IMPORTANT: Possible data corruption when using Veeam Endpoint Backup (VEB) for backup of server workloads! While enhancing server applications backup and recovery in the upcoming VEB 1.1 release, we have identified an issue that may result in unrecoverable restore points created. Essentially, due to the lack of advanced application awareness in the current VEB version, in some scenarios our Changed Block Tracking (CBT) engine is not able to detect that application database files have changed since last backup, thus not performing a scan of their content for changed data blocks to include in the incremental backup. As the result, not every incremental backup will be recoverable. Potentially affected are server applications such as Microsoft Exchange or SQL Server. The issue is resolved in VEB 1.1 with the application-specific logic in our CBT engine, and we are back porting this code to make it available as a hot fix for v1. Meanwhile, you can always create a restore point that will be guaranteed to contain server applications in recoverable state by performing "ad-hoc" backup manually, since this one does not leverage CBT.
