Feature Request

Post by cupplesey »

Hi All,

We are in the early stages of adopting Veeam v8 and have noticed a feature that is missing from which many other cloud software providers currently do. Currently the configuration of the Veeam Backup & Replication console is stored to a local LAN repository and the SQL database backup is done by a maintenance plan separate to the Veeam console.

The feature request would be to provide the functionality to backup not only the config but the database as well to both the local store and cloud connect repository. Forom a service provider point of view this would allow us to restore the customer in the event of DR but also complete a DR rehearsal to allow the customers platform to restored as soon as possible to reduce RTO's.

Veeam promotes the 3-2-1 methodology for the production servers but why not when it comes to protecting itself? In the event of a site loss (all local copies destroyed and no off site config backup taken) there would be no way to fully recover the config or database so the setup would need done again manually which is not practical. Currently the veeam backup server would need to be backed up also to ensure it can be recovered but this is wasteful on space for a cloud connect repository.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned but this would be a very valuable feature

Thanks

Andy

Hi Andy,
thanks for the feedback. Being able to select a cloud repository as a target for a configuration backup has been requested already few times, so we will add your request to the count. Thanks, as any request counts.

for the future, would you like to join the VCP Private Forum for these requests? It's dedicated to service providers registered in our VCP program and I think you may find useful informations and interaction with other providers.

Thanks,
Luca

Apply to our VCP program, if you haven't done that already. VCP program. Then, go to the User Control Panel of this forum, select User Groups in the tabs, select "Veeam Cloud Provider" and finally the "Join selected" option. Thanks.
