VEB and Sharepoint

Post by mairiesuresnes »

Hello,

My environment is :
- a physical SQL Server 2014 with VEB 1.1 (last version) and the database of SharePoint
- a VM with SharePoint 2013 using the remote database (the physical server)

Both of them are backed up to a Veeam Repository. No error. Application aware activated for the VMs.
VEB works fine to restore databases with the SQL Explorer.

Question:
Is this possible to restore SharePoint items with this configuration ?
So far I haven't been successful doing it.

Thanks for your feedback.

Can you clarify, are you trying to run SharePoint Explorer from VBR server? This might be confusing but explorers are not included in the VEB, so whenever you start a file level recovery from Endpoint app – you won’t be able to launch the application item restore.

Exactly, I run SharePoint Explorer from the VBR server.
But it doesn't find any SharePoint data in the VM nor does it find any SharePoint data in the SQL Server automatically.

What is the best way to make it work:
- restore the database from the physical SQL Server backup with the SQL Explorer
- then run the SharePoint Explorer and add Content Database to access the SharePoint data

Thanks for this precision

That is true. Unlike Backup and Replication, Veeam Endpoint Backup does not collect additional server's application metadata, so item level recovery should be possible only in a “manual mode” you described.
