veeam instant recovery test

Post by fcmajor »

Hello!

I would like to know if there is a way to test veeam instant recovery.
We are backing up serveral VMs and now we want to test how and if the Instant Recovery works.

But the VMs we want to recover are still in production (and stay that way).

We have 2 Host with a storage attached.
The veeam backup goes to a NAS.

Isn't Surebackup Recovery Verification something you're looking for?

You can also disable the NIC of the instantly recovered VM prior to powering it on, to avoid possible conflicts.

Can I power of the production VM and then do the instant recovery with the powerd on recovery?
I read somewhere that the original VM will be deletet if I do an instant recovery is that correct?

Yes, you can do that.

Original VM is not touched during IR process.

...if you select "restore to a new location."

Be careful not to select "restore to the original location" while testing, as that will delete the original VM. However, it should warn you if you're about to do that (pop-up when you start the restore process that says, "Original VM still exists, and must be removed. Proceed?").
