Restore point retention doesn't match actual

Post by B.F. »

Greetings,

We have been using VEB on 3 physical boxes. The "Keep restore points for the last x days when computer was used" is set to 2 for all 3 physical boxes. When I look at the Backups within VB&R, it shows that they all have 3 restore points instead of 2.

Please advise.

Thanks

Hi B.F.,

Retention keeps the set value plus one additional restore point to ensure the backup chain transformation takes place only after the needed day.

Hmm, then why is it when I set VB&R to backup VM's with 10 restore points, I actually see 10 restore points on disk instead of 11?

Thanks!

Because retention in VEB is set in days instead of restore points.
Veeam Endpoint Backup retains restore points for the last N days; the number of days is defined by the user. During every backup job session, Veeam Endpoint Backup checks if there is any obsolete restore point in the backup chain. If some restore point is obsolete, it is removed from the chain

So in summery, when setting the days in VEB, we actually are able to do restores from days+1 ago. This seems confusing and inconsistent with VB&R settings.

Still like VEB however. :)

Thanks
