Backup size exchange 2010 vm

Post by JosueM »

Good day everyone.

Case number is 01018013

There is backup job that include only two VMs (domain controller provisioned less than 20GB and exchange provisioned 1.11TB) and compression mode EXTREME. The numbers for the full backup are: Data size=1.1 TB, Backup Size 705GB, dedup=1.2, compress 1.3.

We have another job that backups an ERP vm server with compression mode set to default value and its numbers for the full backup are: data size=s 1.5TB, backup size= 320GB, dedup=1.2 , compression=3.8.

We are trying to figure out how to get a smaller backup size for the exchange vm backup. Any idea or suggestions.?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Josue,
Does your repository have a hardware deduplication by any chance?
Thanks!

Hello Shestakov,

There is no hardware dedup.

Thanks.

Josue, that`s expected to have some VMs are more "compressable" than others. It depends on the type of information to be compressed.
So there is probably nothing wrong with in your infrastructure.

You can however try to periodically reclaim space occupied by guest OS dirty blocks.
