Recovery partition layout

Post by rkle »

Hi there,

currently I use VEB with a 2TB USB disk. The installer partitioned that disk into a
535MB partition to install recovery media on and a 1.3TB data partition where
the backup goes.

During the upgrade I was pompted to update the recovery media as well. However,
upon specifying its location, I can only select drives "I:, J:" together (since they are
on one disk). Then, I get a prompt that the USB disk will be formatted. Of course,
I don't want this since my backups reside on the data partition.

What should I do to update the recovery media partition?

Thanks very much,
Rainer

Rainer,
Good question – thanks. Let me run a couple of tests in our lab before you go - I’ll update this thread shortly.

rkle,
It seems that when you click to recreate the recovery media you USB drive is formatted completely (all the rest partitions are going to be erased as well). It seems like a bug, so I’ve asked to fix this behavior in the next versions.

However, I was told that you can manually replace the components inside the recovery partition by the components from the .iso file. Let me test this solution tomorrow and post here the results. Cheers!

Sorry for the delay, here is what I tested and it worked for me but, please note, that this approach is not supported by our QA team.

- Create a fresh recovery media .iso and open it with the bowser
- Open the old recovery media partition
- Delete all the contents
- Copy and paste the content of the recovery media .iso to the volume
- Test this 'renewed' recovery partition to boot properly
