SQL Version on Backup server

Post by jbrullemans »

Hi,

When i run a backup for a VM i receive this message:

SQL Server version used by the backup server is older than the one installed in this VM. Upgrade is recommended to avoid issues with application items restore.

How can i upgrade the SQL version of the Veeam Server?

Hi,

I know but it says that i need to update the SQL version of Veeam. What is the easiest way of doing that? download SQLExpress 2012 and upgrade the database or are there special database things needed for veeam?

Just update underlying SQL server, there are no Veeam-specific requirements. Be aware to backup configuration first. Thanks.

So if its SQL server 2012 installed on Veem server and on backup-ed VM is SQL 2014 I should install SQL 2014 on Veem server ?

If you're going to use Veeam Explorer for SQL Server for application items restore, you would need to have a staging SQL Server, which has the same or later version as the original backed up SQL Server. By default, local SQL Server deployed with Veeam backup server is used, so you can either upgrade it or specify another compatible SQL server for application items restores.

Hi,

You need to open a drop-down list (icon in a top-left corner) in Veeam Explorer and chose "Options" - there you can specify another SQL serer for staging.

Thank you.

I'm getting this message as well. So is it fine to leave the Veeam SQL server as it is (SQL 2012), to do the backups, but when it comes time to do a restore, I can specify a "newer" SQL staging server to use?

The staging server should be local (place where VB&R and VESQL are installed), since we're still working on adding support for remote staging server for VESQL. Thanks.
