Veeam 9 and Hyper-V 2016

Post by jronnblom »

We're looking at converting to Hyper-V 2016 TP3 running SMB3. Our storage is SMB3 and as we understand it now it doesn't work with your proprietary CBT/RCT filesystemdriver for 2012R2.

I would like to know if the v9 will natively support the MS RCT API or will you continue with your own driver?

Escpecially since v9 will be release before Hyper-V 2016.

And will that work with third party SMB3?

And is there a beta of v9 where we can test these features?

Hello!

v9 will not support Hyper-V 2016 for sure.

When we do release support for Hyper-V 2016 (which will happen 2-3 months after it goes RTM), we will probably support both options for changed block tracking, as our own driver will likely be a more reliable choice until Microsoft's own changed block tracking technology matures. However, there are no firm plans yet, and our current intentions may change.

That said, we will definitely support MS RCT API in our very first release featuring Hyper-V 2016 support.

Yes, MS RCT API does support 3rd party SMB3 storage.

Thanks!
