Instant Recovery timeout?

Post by averylarry »

I have a large complicated (lots of incremental backups) VM I want to instant restore and it keeps saying VM mount agent failed 5 times. Will not retry.

I really think everything is working, but taking too long (it fails at 25 minutes). Is there a reg setting that will either increase the timeout or increase the number of retries?

I had already found and tried that. Both the non and the wow64 nodes. Restarted the services (did not reboot the server). No difference.
I also tried http://www.veeam.com/kb1237 to no avail.
Note -- I have AgentReadOnlyCache disabled.
Know of anything other settings? Otherwise I'll start a tech support case.

Yes, opening a case is preferable.

Once you do this, please post your case ID, so that we could update this topic with a resolution.

I am not certain if KB1237 applies to more recent versions than v6; I can find no evidence that it does.

If I recall correctly, an increase in IrMountLeaseTimeOut usually also requires an increase in remotingTimeout (REG_DWORD, same key, measured in seconds instead of minutes).

Yep -- reg entry above.

HKLM\Software\veeam\veeam backup and replication
DWORD remotingTimeout
we set it to 7200.
My instant recovery takes about 35 minutes but it does work now (don't know why it takes so long for this 1 VM).

How about other VMs? Do they IR faster? What kind of storage the VM backup is located on?
