3par snapshot backup

Post by gdavid16 »

a little confused how this works.

i see a few different methods and its not clear if there is a difference between various storage based methods.
i see other names mentioned in the forums. direct-san vs snapshot, etc.

i found this youtube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhOKKPswocs
and the illustration shows that only the snapshot is presented to the veeam server.
my preference is not to present the vmware LUNs to the vmware host for safety/security. it would be great if the snapshot or readonly snapshot would be presented to the veeam host.
the video presented on how this works seems to indicate that, but i cant find veeam documentation to support this.

George, this is how it actually works, storage snapshot is mounted to the Veeam B&R backup proxy for data retrieval.

Direct SAN is a bit different story, it is used to retrieve VM data directly from VMFS SAN LUNs over SAN fabric.

started to configure this and was curious if someone new the least permission for the 3par array to give it web services and access to the snapshot features.

Quick answer, you need "edit" permissions to the array.
