Error on Adding Proxy Server

Post by mobdoc »

Hi,

Im trying to add a proxy server, going through the wizard and I got this error

Failed to Install Service [VeeamDeploymentService] was not installed

I checked on the Veeam KB http://www.veeam.com/kb1493

and Im sure that I put the domain Admin account but still got same error message.

any idea shared would be helpful.

Thanks

Hi,

Have you checked that $ADMIN share is accessible using the account you'd specified?

Thank you.

Can you also try to install required packages manually and, then, re-add proxy? Required package (VeeamTransport.msi) can be found under the Backup/Packages/. Thanks.

by the way, is it right if I make the exchange server as a proxy to backup exchange (itself) from Veeam?

if not, what should be the best practice.

where can I find that $ADMIN, and how to setup that?
Please open explorer on your VBR server and type in \\yourproxyhostname\admin$. It will either prompt you for username and password (use admin account) or let you in using your current account. Then try to create a folder in that share. If you manage to create a folder then use the same account to install proxy on that server. If installation still fails then please check if port 6160 is allowed. If that does not help then kindly open a ticket with support and post case ID here
by the way, is it right if I make the exchange server as a proxy to backup exchange (itself) from Veeam?
No, it's not a good practice because both proxy and Exchange servers typically experience a significant load, so it would be better to have a dedicated VM as a proxy placed on the same host where your exchange server reside for hot-add mode. If your Exchange VM resides on a datastore that is connected to ESXi vis iSCSI or FC then even the better option would be to use direct SAN approach.

Thank you.

Not a good idea also considering the fact that proxy cannot hotadd itself.

I cannot believe this. I had the same issue. I managed to add a Backup proxy using "\administrator" credentials but to be able to add Vmware proxy I had to use "PCNAME\administrator" credentials.
This bug should be fixed by Veeam...
Thanks Javady

Hello Adrian,

You need to enter credentials in either DOMAIN\USER or HOST\USER format to add Windows Server to the Backup Infrastructure. After that, you can assign a proxy role to the added server. May I ask you to explain what was the original issue and why you couldn't add VMware proxy?

Thanks!

Hi Adrian,
If you want to use local administrator please use add credential on veeam console using ".\Administrator" instead "\Administrator".

it worked for me.
Thanks
