Proxy and NFS datastore affinity
Hello,
I have 2 NFS datastores shared in front of 6 ESXi, and 2 Veeam proxy. In order to reduce my backup window, I would like to configure each proxy to "stick" with one NFS datastore, this way the load will be balanced and will don't fall in the situation where both proxy are backing up VMs on the same NFS datastore, leaving the other one doing nothing.
Unfortunately the option "connected datastore" in the proxy configuration only show my iSCSI LUN. I was thinking of doing 2 jobs for each NFS datastore, but well this is a pain to maintain and I will loose some deduplication ratio.
Any idea ?
Thanks !

Re: Proxy and NFS datastore affinity
Hi,
The solution would be to place all VM's that reside in the same datastore into one job and set that job to use specific proxy in job settings. Don't forget to make sure that your proxy has sufficient amount of resources.
Thank you.
In the "connected datastores" field you can specify datastores to which the backup proxy has a direct SAN connection. By default, Veeam Backup & Replication automatically detects all datastores that the backup proxy can access in the Direct SAN Access mode. Direct SAN can be used with iSCSI or FC, not with NFS.Unfortunately the option "connected datastore" in the proxy configuration only show my iSCSI LUN.

Also, we're adding direct NFS in the upcoming v9.

Re: Proxy and NFS datastore affinity
Hello guys,
First, thanks for your replies.
@Ptide: yes sure, as stated in my previous post, split the backup will result in management overhead, and dedup ratio loss ... so it is a work around, but really not efficient in my case
@foggy : I am really excited about this new feature in V9, except the fact that I could use "Direct SAN" mode with NFS, will it allow us to define a specific NFS DS to a specific proxy, which is my main concern actually

Yes, NFS datastores will be visible in the same dialog in proxy settings.

Re: Proxy and NFS datastore affinity
A very last question that just comes in my mind, would the Direct NFS feature be accessible for the Veeam Enterprise (not plus) edition ? I hope yes

Full feature sets for each product edition will be available along with the release, however my assumption is that it will be available in every edition, similar to Direct SAN.

[MERGED] Direct NFS in Version 9 Licensing
Hi,
as there is no licensing to Features Chart available yet for Version 9, from which step (Standard, Enterprise / Plus) will the "Direct NFS" Feature be included?
Thanking in advance,
Martin

Hi Martin and welcome to the forums!
As far as I know, it`s going to be available in Standard edition.
