Veeam 8 SQL server backups

It seems that in Veeam 8, when a application aware backup is made, it notifies SQL server, and SQL server is aware that a full backup was made for each database.

The problem with this is that if you use another tool for backups of Full + Diff + Trans logs, you are creating a new full backup, and breaking the backup chain. If you try restore the other party's software full + Diff, it complains that the full, is not the full backup from which the Diff base was made.

Its a bit dangerous, and quite misleading. A lot of SQL server backup software (including the builtin), is really easy to do restores from, but if you now have a backup sitting inside a veeam VBK, the 3rd party software doesn't have easy access to it.

In Veeam 7, I'm sure it was only transaction logs being created, and SQL server was unaware of any restore points of full backups when Veeam did a backup of the VM?

Can anyone confirm how it should work, and if there was a change from 7 to 8, I think this should come with a pretty big warning, for example, some people might be doing Full + 60 days of Diffs, whereas their Veeam backup might be done every night, and only go back a week. They wouldn't be able to restore a backup from say 30 days ago, or 20 days ago etc?

Matthew, just use the Copy Only option to preserve the chain created by 3d party tools. Thanks.
