What are these in VEEAM backup repository?

Post by mysticalice »

Hi
Have a few drives (mapped RDM on the VM directly from the SAN) on my VEEAM server at one of our locations.

I recently took over the environment, so trying to figure everything out. Noticed on one of the drives there are a group of folders (see Picture1)

Inside those folders are a lot of VBK files (see Picture2 below).

What's concerning (?) is they have recent dates and times on them, although there's nothing running on either site VEEAM other than routine backup and replication jobs.

Any idea where they're coming from? How would I tell? I logged into backup enterprise manager web application, but I'm more familiar using the main backup and replication manager.

This metadata is used to speed up replica incremental runs and should be stored closer to source side.

Glad to hear we've clarified the confusion. Should other help be needed, feel free to contact us.

Thanks.

When a look at the files the directory structure in our environment, I see recent and dated files.
Is it safe to delete the older files?
How do you determine what folder matches to a replicated virtual machine?

Dan, you can delete files from replica metadata repository, they will be recreated, if required. As you can see on the screenshot above, metadata is stored in the Replicas folder of the repository, in subfolders named after the corresponding VMs.
