Virtual Proxy Additional SCSI card not attaching HDD's

Post by rreed »

Morning everyone. VMware 6, B&R8, both w/ all updates; virtual proxies in hot-add. I've added a second SCSI (paravirtual) per what I understand to be Veeam's preferred practice for better performance. During backups, sometimes hot-add will attach the source VM's HDD to a given proxy's first SCSI card (disk 0:1, 0:2, etc.) but sometimes it might attach it to the PV (1:0, 1:1, etc.) The first SCSI card beign LSI SAS, the proxy's OS HDD attached to it, the second SCSI being the paravirtual w/ nothing attached. Just "there."

Have I left out a step? Is there a setting to force it to attach to the second controller? We're not filling up 15+ devices at a time, more like 4-5 tops.

Hi,

Are there any errors in session log? Also, how many slots does your proxy have?

Thank you.

Nope, everything works fine, backups run, everything works, but while the source VM's HDD is attached it's just not attaching to the second controller. I watched more closely yesterday, I never saw any attach. The one I thought that did was actually a legitimate extra drive attached to one proxy as a POC local repository so it doesn't count of course.

Slots? Proxies are VM's if you're referring to PCI slots.

Pavel meant "Max concurrent tasks" specified in the setting of the given proxy server.

It might stand to reason to reach support team and work on your setup with them more closely.

Thanks.

Ah, I have my concurrent tasks matching my CPU count; 2 for some, 4 for others. Doesn't seem to make any difference, none of my proxies are connecting to the second SCSI card. Thanks Vladimir, I'll get a support case going.

It is very important that the SCSI adapter type matches the ones from the VMs. HotAdd will not attach a disk from paravirtual SCSI to LSI SCSI.
